According to this site, the Yoshino Cherry is by far the most numerous type of single flowered (blossoms of 5 petals) Japanese cherry trees in Vancouver. Depending on the location and the year, they open in late March and early April and peak about one week later. The Yoshino Cherry is probably the most popular cherry tree in Japan, and the tree most readily associated with with hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and cherry blossoms in general by many Japanese.
This seven day series comes to a close tomorrow. It has been a study of a set of Yoshino Cherry blossom trees blooming in the midst of the city - surrounded by the Hyatt, the Bentall towers, Christ Church, and the construction of the Bell Tower. Blossoms blanket commuters emerging from the skytrain station underground.
