As a small kid I was perennially fascinated by the papery, translucent pods of what I called the "silver penny" plant, and was delighted to see one the other day at Jericho Park and grab a few shots.
This detail in one frame struck me for its lunar-like silver glow, being eclipsed by the filemot coloured, yin-like pod in the foreground. It evoked a waning moon.
The next night, indeed, a waning gibbous moon rose suddenly out of the southeast sky, and I felt the two images would make a complementary composite, expressing precisely what I originally saw in the silver-penny plant. I was not surprised today in my research to find out the latin name of the plant: Lunaria biennis.
